Stems are usually solitary, branched; largest leaves to 3/4 inch, 1/8 inch wide; distal leaves generally tapering to a point; disc corolla lobes generally 4, bright red to purple; outer fruit less than 1/16 inch; inner fruit with pappus bristles.

Flower Characteristics

The 1/8 inch flower heads are surrounded by upper leaves of about the same length as the head. Each head has tiny reddish-purple disc flowers with the outer 8 to 10 being all female.
