Stems arise from a woody base, mostly 5 to 20, erect, slender, branched above, usually green, rarely tinged with purplish-red; herbage with or without hairs, long soft hairs tufted in the axils of persistent leaf bases; ray and disc flowers yellow.

Perennial herb; branching woody base; leaves narrow, sometimes lobed, basal leaves may be present at flowering, hairy at the base; stem leaves 5 to 20; yellow flower heads have 7 to 14 ray and 25 to 75 disc flowers.
